XBMC Eden, the latest release of the popular media centre app, will be available to install in Ubuntu 12.04 through the Ubuntu Software Centre - no additional PPAs necessary. This marks the first time that the package is available in Ubuntu without the need for additional PPAs or repositories.
Kubuntu has found a new funding partner in the form of Blue Systems. The KDE-flavoured Ubuntu spin has been sponsored financially by Canonical until now. However, as we reported back in Feburary, this funding will cease at the end of the 12.04 development cycle.

Today marks the end of support for Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat. Released in October of 2010, Ubuntu 10.10 was a notable release. It was the first release to ship with Unity (in the then-existing Netbook edition), introduced Shotwell as Ubuntu's default photo manager, and brought a refined installer with new check screens and 3rd party software options.
A new GNOME extension aims to bring Unity Dash-like features to the GNOME Shell desktop. "I love GNOME Shell but miss the application categories from Gnome 2, dislike the visual interruption when searching for an application and don't use the overview to manage any of my windows," the developer of the extension, Zac Barton, told us. The result of his work is 'Launchy'.
