The makers of Shotwell have launched the first release of a new e-mail client for Linux. Geary 0.1 is described by Yorba as 'a lightweight email reader for the GNOME desktop'. Unity is said to make your workflow faster and easier. But is that true? Ubuntu contributor Jo-Erlend Schinstad decided to see how much time he would save using Unity compared to Gnome Panel (Classic) when performing a set of simple tasks.
Ubuntu is not perfect. It crashes, breaks and bugs out on us – often at the worst of times. But as talented as many developers are they are not psychic. In order for issues to […]
Pre-order registration for the KDE Plasma Active tablet 'Spark' has been closed due to 'overwhelming demand'. "It has been so successful that we've reached our initial production capacity and have closed the pre-order program for now," writes Spark project lead Aaron Seigo on his blog.
One feature you may be surprised (or relived) to find missing in Ubuntu 12.04 is the 'Dodge' effect of the Unity Launcher. A healthy pot of debate has been stirring on the Unity Design mailing list over the decision to remove it entirely and instead default the launcher to 'not hide'.
In a turn of events not unlike we've seen before, Valve has posted a job listing for a Senior Software Engineer to work on their "highly available digital distribution platform" Steam. If you want to help out with the testing, it will be much appreciated. So what's still happening? It's interesting to note that still quite a number of fixes is going in. Also has the planning for the 12.04 ("Precise Pangolin") cycle been started. Matthias Klose sent out an email about the preparation of the P-cycle archive: the wiki page lists a number of significant changes for 'precise', like updates to gcc, binutils, swig and other core components and dropping python2.6.
