Clean Up the Unity Launcher with Category Quick-lists

The Unity launcher is a shelf for managing and launching our favourite applications. But on smaller screens, such as those on netbooks, it's easy for it to become so stacked full of pinned and running apps that things become slightly unmanageable. If you find that that's the case for you then give one of these 'themed' category quick-lists a go. They group popular applications together in a handy right-click quick-list.

Ubuntu 12.04 Alpha 2 Released

The second alpha of Ubuntu 12.04 has been made available for download. As Ubuntu 12.04 is a 'Long Term Support' release development is focusing on creating a dependable stable experience. As such Ubuntu 12.04 Alpha 2 features only a handful of modest user-visible changes to the desktop. Check in for screenshots, video and the all important download link.

Thanks Microsoft! Play ‘Cut The Rope’ in Chrome, Firefox

Microsoft and game developers zeptolab unveiled a browser-based version of the cult (and cute) mobile game 'Cut The Rope' during this weeks CES event in Las Vegas. The team-up is designed to show off Internet Explorer 9's "awesome" Javascript and HTML5 capabilities. As Microsoft choose to see the game crafted to open standards you don't actually have to use IE to play the game it. Oh no. Cut The Rope works just as well in Google Chrome, Chromium, Firefox... etc on Ubuntu.

Focus Writer Update Adds .Odt Support

Full-screen distraction free writing app 'Focus Writer' has been updated. The application, which sports custom-themes, configurable toolbars and a daily goal tracker amongst its various features, has now gained basic support for the opening and saving of .Odt files (the file format most commonly used by LibreOffice).
