So Long Maverick Meerkat!

Today marks the end of support for Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat. Released in October of 2010, Ubuntu 10.10 was a notable release. It was the first release to ship with Unity (in the then-existing Netbook edition), introduced Shotwell as Ubuntu's default photo manager, and brought a refined installer with new check screens and 3rd party software options.

New Extension Brings ‘Unity Dash’ to GNOME Shell

A new GNOME extension aims to bring Unity Dash-like features to the GNOME Shell desktop. "I love GNOME Shell but miss the application categories from Gnome 2, dislike the visual interruption when searching for an application and don't use the overview to manage any of my windows," the developer of the extension, Zac Barton, told us. The result of his work is 'Launchy'.

Linberry – Blackberry Phone Manager for Linux

Linux Blackberry owners may have been frustrated by the lack of desktop management tool. And that's largely the fault of RIM, the makers of popular smartphone. For whilst they provide dedicated desktop clients for managing the phone under Windows and OS X they provide nothing for use on Linux. So it falls to the Linux community to provide solutions. And the most thorough of these comes in the shape of LinBerry - a dedicated desktop manager for Blackberry that's currently in beta.
