MusicTube Desktop App Uses YouTube As A Music Library

The creator of flash-free desktop YouTube application 'Minutube' and stylish music player 'MiniTunes' has announced the release of a new application: MusicTube. Musictube is a mish-mash of the developers former two applications, and is designed to let you find, arrange and listen to whatever music you like - as long as it's on YouTube. The idea is similar to on-demand music streaming services such as Spotify and Pandora: you search for an artist or a track and, if it's there, you can play it.

Open Source Radio Station Management Software Airtime Sees New Release

Airtime - an open source application designed to make radio station management easier - has seen a new release with .deb packages available for Ubuntu. The award-winning software has been bumped to version 1.9.4, and along with a host of bug fixes, now includes handy packages for your favourite Debian based distribution to make installation and updating easy. Powering stations like London’s Resonance FM, Senegal’s West Africa Democracy Radio and Canada’s NationTalk, Airtime platforms have been receiving industry acclaim including a Knight-Batten Award for Innovations in Journalism. Airtime is also a finalist in the Packt Open Source Multimedia Software Awards 2011 alongside Blender, GIMP and Inkscape.

Add a ‘Force Quit’ Applet to Ubuntu’s Unity Launcher

Long-time users of Ubuntu might recall that a handy 'Force Quit' applet was once available to add to the desktop panel, which made 'closing' misbehaving applications a cinch. Thankfully for the lazy amongst us reader Josh Leverette has put together a script that adds a 'Force Close' button to the Unity Launcher. With one click you can once again kill crashy, CPU-hogging applications without having to reboot or revert to the Terminal.

The Ubuntu Manual Project Needs Your Help For Oneiric

The Ubuntu Manual Project founded at the start of 2010 aims to provide a feature-complete reference guide for new Ubuntu users, available in PDF format for free. Already successfully releasing versions for Ubuntu 10.04 and 10.10 in English and three other languages, the team has now set their sights on tackling the new Unity interface and completing the almost 200-page long book for Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot.
