The winners of Ubuntu's App Showdown contest have been announced. RSS app 'Lightread', web-app creator 'Fogger', and boredom-buster game 'Picsaw' all topped the judges vote.
Earlier this week we filled you in on Michael Tunnell's work at bringing Wunderlist back to the Ubuntu desktop - and making it even better in the process. In that post we mentioned that you would need to add the 'Fogger Apps' PPA to Ubuntu in order to install it. Skip forward a few days: now you don't!
Wunderlist is back on Ubuntu thanks to Fogger.
Question: When is a web-app not a web-app? Answer: When it's created by Fogger. It allows native desktop features, like notification bubbles, Unity launcher badges and progress bars, to be utilised by websites to deliver updates, alerts and information right on the desktop. And the first website to get Fogger support is Facebook.
Popular Mac web app maker 'Fluid' is getting a Linux sibling - albeit unofficially - thanks to an app submitted as part of the Ubuntu App Showdown contest.
