Unity 2D Removed from Ubuntu 12.10

Unity 2D, the light-weight counterpart to Ubuntu's Unity interface, has been retired from Ubuntu 12.10. In an update released yesterday Unity 2D was removed and users set to auto-login to the session transitioned over to regular Unity. The 2D version of Unity has been used as a fallback for users whose computers lack sufficient graphical grunt to run the '3D' version.

A Wine Named Ubuntu (No, Really)

We've seen Ubuntu Cola, Ubuntu car license plates, and even Ubuntu crop circles. But a wine? That's new to me The familiarly-named beverage was produced in 2007, 2008 and 2009 by Portuguese wine makers Niepoort as part of celebrations making the then World Cup host nation of South Africa.

Music App ‘Beatbox’ Sees Minor Tweaks In New Release

A new version of music app Beatbox has been released, with the focus this time falling on the 'tidying up' of existing features rather than adding new ones. Amongst the areas given polish in Beatbox 0.6 are the main toolbar, which now sports a tighter, if somewhat cramped, look, and the album track selection pop-up.
