Longed for visualisations in media player Banshee? As part of an update to the community-extensions package visualisation support is now available to enable in the latest release.

First you’ll to ensure you have Banshee’s Community Extensions package installed. If you’re not already using the Banshee Unstable PPA you may want to add it. This PPA houses all of the ‘odd’ numbered Banshee releases – such as the most recent release 1.7.5

Open a terminal from ‘Applications > Accessories’ and enter the following two lines separately:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:banshee-team/banshee-unstable

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install banshee banshee-community-extensions

Now move up to the

Edit > Preferences > Extensions > Community Extensions

and check the box next to

Visualizer

The ‘now playing’ view (when playing a track will look something like this: –

There are several visualisation ‘styles’ to choose from. Press the ‘Select Visualisation’ button to choose.

The ‘simplify’ options renders the view to a more minimal frame:
