Alternative solutions for playing Flash content online seems to be all the rage these days. There are many open source projects that aim to provide a free ‘flash’ player, such as Gnash and Lightspark, but a new open-source project called Smokescreen aims to do things a little differently…
Smokescreen converts Flash into HTML5 /JavaScript, with the humble goal of supporting simple flash-based files, such as adverts, on non-flash supporting mobile platforms using HTML5. Full flash video likely wouldn’t be a pleasant experience using Smokescreen as JavaScript runs slower than a native plug-in.
