Bit torrent application Vuze (previously Azureus) is popular with many, but the look of its panel icon in Ubuntu leaves a lot to be desired.
Douglas M wrote in to share a quick ‘fix’ for Vuze users unable to live with the ‘blue’ notification area icon used by default…
“Here’s a way to change Vuze’s blue frog tray Icon to a white frog with transparent background to fit better Unity’s monochrome tray.”
Open a terminal and enter the following command, putting in your password where prompted.
- gksu nautilus /usr/share/java
In the Nautilus window that opens locate the package named ‘azureus2.jar’.
Right click on this file and choose ‘Extract’.
When completed a new folder, Azureus2, will be placed at the top of the file window.
Click through to the following folder:
- /org/gudy/azureus2/ui/icons/
Amongst the various icons in this folder is the one by default -‘a16.png’. Rename this to ‘a16-original.png’
Locate and then make a copy of ‘az3_osx_tray_white.png‘. Rename this to ‘a16.png’.
Go back to the main ‘java’ folder and right click on the ‘Azureus2′ folder.
Choose’ Compress’ > Jar’. Allow it to overwrite the existing package.
Relaunch Vuze and voila – white frog on your panel.
