Lightweight (and very popular!) twitter application Turpial has gained a PPA – albeit an unofficial one – thanks to Efrain Valles.

Turpial: Like a Linux native Tweetdeck

Like other Twitter applications available for Linux Turpial features pretty much every common option. You can shorten URL’s, follow people, unfollow people, favourite tweets, upload pictures to TwitPic or TwitImg and conducts searches in-app.

As with fellow clients Gwibber & Tweedeck Turpial supports a multi-column view. Unlike the former two applications you can’t specify what stream a particular column shows in Turpial but it’s a nice touch for power-tweeters out there, although it’s not enabled by default.

Turpial also supports the Ubuntu notification system allowing updates to be displayed bubble-style on your desktop.

Xubuntu bound?

Just as Ubuntu has Gwibber installed by default and Kubuntu has Choqok so Xubuntu may also get some Microblogging methods. In his blog post regarding his PPA for Turpial Efrain Valles mentions: “I am definitelly thinking of taking Turpial to Ubuntu. Xubuntu could use a lightweight microbloging app…”

PPA

The following PPA is only available for Lucid only and, please note, that this build is only available in Spanish. With that said you’ll hardly have any issue using it – I don’t speak any Spanish beyond ‘No Hablo Ingles’ and I manage to use it fine.

Later builds do have English (as well as French, Norwegian and Chinese) translations so expect these to appear in an update somewhere along the line.

  • sudo add-apt-repository ppa:effie-jayx/turpial
