Ubuntu 11.04 adds 17 brand new wallpapers

The winning wallpapers that will form the Ubuntu 11.04 wallpaper pack have been selected.

17 images make up the set – excluding the default desktop wallpaper which can be seen here – which, for the first time, sees illustrated designs offered up alongside traditional photographic wallpapers.

    I notice some narwhal-themed ones made it in! That should make some people happy.

    But what will the default wallpaper be? There’s a lot of suspense here, especially considering Canonical’s first attempt at Maverick’s default wallpaper.

          Well, you want something generic for your default. You want something theme related in terms of color, but you don’t want to try and direct people’s choices. The default they chose is a safe starter.

    Great selection. Kudos to Ivanka and the design team. Loving the Narwhal ones as well, they make a great balance to what is usually just a set of shallow DOF flower pictures.

    Thank goodness that some narwhal themed pictures made it in. Sad that I probably wont be updating this cycle though. I have to see what they manage to do in the final month. Natty still seems to need a lot of polish, I hope i works out.

    One thing I don’t understand… why are they of different formats? One is png and the rest of jpg

    I’d personally prefer they all be in png, but wouldn’t it at least make more sense to keep them all the same format?

    Some are quite nice, but overall pretty generic… I’m so sick of grass and close ups of flowers etc. Considering what they had to choose from, I’m honestly shocked at some of these. A little originality please!

      Besides Hardy’s and Intrepid’s defaults, that’s the only supplied wallpaper I’ve ever liked enough to use

    I think most of them look really nice, except for the one called Tri_Narwhal. Damn that one is awful!

    My favorite is by far the one called Fabric.
