MiniTube 0.8 was released today bringing with the ability to play HD videos from YouTube, flash-free and directly on your desktop.
Yes, this doesn’t require the need for Flash! At all!
Also new in the 0.8 release: -
- MiniTube now remembers volume and mute status across sessions
- New Translations, including French and Latvian.
- Removes “cheesy” icons from menus in Linux version
Install MiniTube
The following PPA packages MiniTube for easy install and maintenance on Ubuntu.
- sudo add-apt-repository ppa:neversfelde/ppa
It is also available from GetDeb @ getdeb.net/updates/Minitube

You will also need to install the following to get video playback: -
sudo apt-get install phonon-backend-gstreamer gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad
Please note that this latest version has yet to hit the PPA or GetDeb but it should arrive within the next few hours so patience is a virtue.
