UDS-P, planning Ubuntu 12.04, to be held in Orlando (again)

UDS-O - scheduled to be held in Budapest next month to plan the Oneiric Ocelot (11.10) release - hasn't even happened yet, but the location and date for UDS-P has been booked for later this year.

Ubuntu 11.10 will not ship with ‘classic’ GNOME desktop

Mark Shuttleworth has revealed that the 'classic' Ubuntu desktop will be a thing of the past come the release of Oneiric Ocelot. This won't come as a great shock to many; it was previously announced that Ubuntu-2D would be shipping on the 11.10 disc for users unable to run the Compiz-based version.

KDE Twitter app Choqok 1.1 released; how to download

An update to Qt Twitter client 'Choqok' is now available for download. Now on version 1.1, the release contains a new translator plugin; a timeline filter to make reading tweets in your stream from a specific person or topic easier and a new option to hide the menu bar.

Open Morrowind 0.10.0 released, brings Elder Scrolls to Linux

The OpenMW project is creating a new open source engine for The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind which will allow the game to run on Linux for the first time. And they've just announced their 010.0 release.

GNOME be trollin’ – 3.0 delayed (again) to September 2011

The GNOME Release team meeting at GNOME Bangalore hackfest have decided to postpone the 3.0 release to September of this year, release manager Vincent Untz unveiled today. He cited various reasons for the delay, including a large number of freeze break requests, constant changes in the design, Mozilla dropping embedded versions of Gecko and more.

Google Earth renders cheeky Narwhal outside Canonical’s London office

Google are known to be a cheeky company. A cheeky company that also has many employees that use Ubuntu and are looking forward to Natty Narwhal. That aside, we were still pretty surprised to see that the Google Maps team have added a giant Narwhal swimming in the Thames outside Canonical's office in the Millbank Tower for a little Ubuntu-related April Fooling.

Houston, we have a problem – the X server has crashed
