DotA 2, the standalone sequel to the popular Warcraft battle mod ‘Defense of the Ancients‘, is on its way to Linux.
In an FAQ listed on the official DotA 2 website the question of Linux support is addressed by Valve, the games maker say that “…Mac and Linux builds are currently in testing and will be available soon.”
The free-to-play MOBA game was released for Windows earlier this week.
While no firm date for a DotA2 release on Linux has been given some readers have been in touch to say that a ‘dota 2 test’ is showing up in their Steam library.
They add:
“Please note that Dota 2 Linux is still in testing and only available on Dota 2 Test. We’re looking for early testing and feedback from users before we ship Linux support on the main Dota 2 release client. Your feedback and bug reports will directly help improve Dota 2 on Linux.
We are Linux specific issues on the Dota 2 GitHub Available at https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Dota-2/issues This is the place to Check IF the bug you are seeing has been reported and to also report your own bugs.”
System requirements for the DotA2 Test (for Linux) are listed by Valve as:
- Ubuntu 12.04
- Dual core from Intel or AMD at 2.8 GHz
- 4GB RAM
- 4GB Hard Drive Space,
- nVidia GeForce 8600/9600GT, ATI/AMD Radeaon HD2600/3600 (Graphic Drivers: nVidia 310, AMD 12.11), OpenGL 2.1
- OpenAL Compatible Sound Card
