If you’re one of the estimated 600,000 daily Shoutcast web radio listeners you might be interested in this: a Shoutcast plugin for Rhythmbox.

Although I’m not a massive fan of radio there are times, for whatever reason – usually peer pressure, that I need to tune in to a barely-audible loop of static being broadcast from a bedroom far away. Consider me a little surprised to learn then that on the default Ubuntu desktop you need to use Totem Movie Player to use Shoutcast streams.

Hmm.

If you’re old-fashioned like me – and see radio as something you listen to in a music player and not a movie player – then this Shoutcast plugin for Rhythmbox makes an ace addition to your audio arsenal.
