Today sees the official release of Ubuntu 9.10 ‘Karmic Koala’, following six months of frenzied, fun and (at times) frustrating development.
Ubuntu’s official website has been updated with a slick callout highlighting (some of the) key changes, an online tour whipping through what Ubuntu can do and that all-important download button to grab a 32-bit of 64-bit ISO (or Wubi installer) to try it out first hand.

You don’t need to do a fresh install, but if you plan to upgrade from Ubuntu 8.10 to 9.10 via the Update Manager in the next day or two, be prepared for a slower-than-usual upgrade duration. Ubuntu server speeds will be impacted upon as people all over the world over clamour to make the leap to the latest (and greatest, imo) Ubuntu release so far.
Where possible, download Ubuntu ISOs using the official torrent files provided. This takes strain off of the official servers to speed up those using them. Remember to seed the ISO to help others get it faster too!
Of course, Ubuntu 9.10 is available in other “flavours” too. Kubuntu 9.10 is out today too, offering the usual sort of KDE goodies.
Head over the official Ubuntu website to download it, or take the aforementioned tour (screenshot of which is below), or dive into our karmic archives to check out all of the changes – from new boot splash graphics, EXT4 filesystem to the Ubuntu One cloud storage service!
