XMind is an OpenSource “brainstorming and mind mapping” application that provides tools for online collaboration, easy sharing and the ability to embed mind maps into blogs or websites with one click.

XMind can help create mind maps, fishbone diagrams, tree diagrams, org-charts, logic charts, and more ” all with easy to use templates if you’re stuck for a starting point.

Xmind can read ‘FreeMind’ files ” making it easy to switch from FreeMind to XMind.

I’m not a power user of Mind Mapping software – I don’t run a business or need to document meeting sessions – but even I found XMind so easy and intuitive to use.

You start a topic, hit tab to create a subtopic and you’re off! You can easily add boundaries, relationships, markers, labels, notes, audio notes, attachments, hyperlinks and graphics and tweak and move all of the above to your hearts content!

I would set Xmind to auto-save your document every so often. This can be enabled in the preferences dialog.
