vlc-tileVLC 2.0.2 was pushed out a few days back – but how do you install it in Ubuntu 12.04?

The release packs in several hundred bug fixes, including improved HD playback support, subtitle detection and Qt interface tweaks.

Dè Ghàidhlig a th’air VLC? If you can read that then this release offers you something new: Scottish Gaelic translations!

Whilst this latest update isn’t available to install through the Ubuntu Software Center it can be installed in Ubuntu by adding the official VLC PPA to your Software Sources.

There are two ways to do this, but I’m only going to show the quickest.

To upgrade VLC in Ubuntu 12.04 run the following commands in a new Terminal window.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:videolan/stable-daily
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install vlc

That’s it.
