How to enable Global Menu support for LibreOffice in Ubuntu 11.04

Notice: This post is more than a year old. It may be outdated.

Ubuntu 11.04 users can free up some screen space and gain desktop consistency in LibreOffice by enabling LibreOffice Global Menu support.

Global menu support for LibreOffice

Isn’t this there by default?

No. The extension, the work of Alberto Ruiz, is available to install in 11.04 but is not enabled – or installed – by default.

That’s not the be-all and end-all however as enabling it requires is the installation of one singular package: lo-menubar, a LibreOffice extension that “…send[s] the menubar structure through DBusMenu.”

lo-menubar can be found in the Ubuntu Software Centre or installed by clicking on the apt-url below.
