Destroy Any Website is a browser-based run-and-gun that lets you run amok on any public-facing website – with an array of destructive weapons.

You take command of a character and run, jump and jetpack around website site elements using traditional WASD controls, taking aim with your mouse to score points by blasting your chosen online target to literal tiny pieces.

There’s even a competitive multiplayer mode that you pick a website, share a code with a pal and then race against each other to reach a target destruction score, replete with scoreboard to keep tabs on.

The game in action

It’s made by Hugo Duprez, creator of Sprite Fusion, a browser-based pixel-art editor for 2D games and this page-rage clone doubles as a showcase for what it can do.

Lest anyone panic, the wanton destruction this game unleashes leaves no permanent trace. It happens on a copy of the webpage in question. A cutesy frontend for ‘prompting’ the latest batch of rogue OpenAI agents this ain’t, and no-one will know you blasted anything.

Linux related? No, not in a strict sense, but catharsis is cross-platform and it works in any modern Linux desktop browser.

I saw it with my coffee and figured you might find it an amusing – or productive – way to pass 5 minutes. Blasting stuff with laser guns and flame-throwers counts as “wellness” in my book (a tome latterly purchased by a shell company to ship aboard for no reason).

It also reminded me of those old “destroy your desktop” games/apps that were a bit of a ‘thing’ on Windows back in the 2000s (probably as a vehicle for trojans and browser toolbars). I didn’t use Linux back then, so I don’t know if there were similar ones.

Some of us HAVE A FRIEND OF A FRIEND with a long list of online grudges. This may help me them work through their issues with that online retailer who screwed up an order, the bookmarked indie blog that became an effluent pipe for the Brown Brothers…

Ahem.

Oh, and inb4 any of you say a bit of pixel-pistol-whipping might improve the style of this site. I know, I know…
