Fans of the Papirus icon theme for Linux desktops will be happy to hear a new version is available for download.
Paprius‘s first update for 2025 improves support for KDE Plasma 6, adding Konversation, KTorrent and RedShift tray icons, KDE and Plasma logo glyphs for various ‘start menu’ analogues, and an assortment of symbolic icons.
Retro gaming fans will be pleased to know this update levels up its mime type coverage for a slate of ROM files.
Papirus adds glyphs for ZX Spectrum, SEGA Dreamcast, SEGA Saturn, MSX, and Neo Geo Pocket console ROMs, and uses different coloured image file icons to provide visual distinction between similar ones.

And a number of apps, files, and services receive revised icons in this release, including subtle changes for the Clapper video player icon, a fresh design for freeCAD to mimic its new official logo, and a revamp to Notesnook.
Beyond that there are a slate of symlinks tweaks to make sure the right icons get used in the right places more often, plus some miscellaneous cleanup and tidying efforts.
Frequent updates are part Papirus‘ enduring popularity on Linux desktop. Stylistically uniform icon sets with missing icons ruin the look, but Papirus is maintained and responsive to app requests and contributions, greatly expanding its coverage.

You can download Papirus from GitHub, which is also where you’ll find more information on this free, open-source icon pack, how to file issues, request a missing icon, or get involved in maintaining it.
You can install Papirus in Ubuntu from the official project PPA, which provides pre-built packages of the latest release for Ubuntu 20.04 LTS and later (and any Linux distributions based on it, like Linux Mint).
After installing the Papirus icon theme in Ubuntu you’ll need switch to it – it doesn’t happen automatically. To do this the easy way just install the GNOME Tweaks tool, open it, and set Papirus in the Appearance > Icons section.
Alternatively, use a dconf command or the dconf-editor.
