TUXEDO Computers has unleashed their latest Linux laptop, the InfinityFlex 14 — as you might have guessed from the name, it flips and folds.

The company touts this dextrous new device as ‘the first 3-in-1 Linux convertible’, with its 360-degree hinge1 allow the touch-enabled 14-inch display to flip back into tablet mode, or be folded into ‘touch monitor’ mode for, er, watching movies I guess.

Tablet mode will be especially tempting for open-source artists and animators, and the TUXEDO InfinityFlex 14 supports active style via the Microsoft Pen Protocol 2.0.

While a pen isn’t included with the device buyers can add a Wacom Bamboo Ink at checkout, but bundling one in would have made it more of an ‘out-of-the-box’ experience.

Still, there’s plenty more to TUXEDO’s InfinityFlex 14 than its flippin’ screen.

This devices offers upgradeable RAM (a max of 64 GB DDR4-3200 across 2 slots), and upgradeable storage (2 M.2 NVMe slots).

In a light and thin portable upgrade options tend to be few and far between these days, so having the ability to upgrade when you need is very welcome.

Performance wise, the InfinityFlex 14 is powered by an Intel Core i5-1335U processor, a 10-core chip (2 performance, 8 efficiency) with 12 heads.

Integrated Intel Iris Xe graphics deliver competent if not exceptional performance, but with Intel QuickSync there is AV1 decoding, albeit not AV1 encoding (though this device isn’t really aimed at video makers anyway, so that’s unlikely to disappoint).

The 14-inch matte display is a lowly 1920×1200 pixels (16:10), and there’s a 2.0 megapixel website (with privacy switch) integrated along the top edge. Intel Wi-Fi 6E AX211 offers wireless and Bluetooth connectivity.

Ports are listed in the info box (can’t see the info box, you’re reading a scraper site. Why not read this on omgubuntu.co.uk, instead?).

A 55 Wh battery is good for 5 hours of light web browsing, 6 hours of video, or 12 hours of being idle, according to TUXEDO. Charging is via a barrel connector (groan) or via USB-C (hurrah), but unlike other laptops out there with this chipset, no super-fast charging.

Flexibility optional, this is a regular laptop too

If the InfinityFlex 14 (Gen 1) sounds infinitely useful for you, pre-orders are open now. TUXEDO will begin shipping to customers towards the end of September, 2024.

Pricing starts at €1000 (~$1100) for the entry-level model (16GB/500GB), with the price increasing beyond that if you customise, configure, or kit-out it out with your preferred set of specs, peripherals, and bonus items (like 4G LTE).

The Ubuntu-based TUXEDO OS will come preloaded, complete with software to manage and configure parts of the hardware (like fans). You can opt for a different Linux distribution (or pay for Windows 11) during checkout, if you’d rather.

  1. My Acer Chromebook 13 Spin with 360-degree hinge was marketed it as a 5-in-1 (even has a sticker saying so, yo): laptop, tablet, tent, folded flat, or ‘touch monitor’ (keyboard facing down, screen facing out). Only 1 of those modes doesn’t make me feel dorky… ↩︎
