The all-new third-generation KDE Slimbook is now available to buy from— and on paper it looks a beast.
KDE Slimbook (3rd Gen)
14 or 15.6-inch IPS
|CPU:||AMD Ryzen 7 4800H|
|GPU:||Radeon RX Vega 7|
|RAM:||Up to 64GB|
|Storage:||Up to 2TB NVMe|
Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX200
|Weight:||1.1kg – 1.5kg|
Hiding inside its thin and light magnesium alloy case is a powerful AMD Ryzen 4000 processor, ample RAM, speedy SSD, and a pre-installed version of the latest KDE Neon with Plasma desktop.
Two display sizes are available: 14.1-inch and 15.6-inch. Both screens are Full HD IPS LED panels with 100% sRGB range. Size is the only real differentiator — and yes that 1.5-inch extra does feel huge when you’re a smol guy like me 😉!
So if you like the look of the TUXEDO Pulse 15 but wished its screen was a bit smaller, definitely check this one out.
Performance wise the KDE Slimbook 3 should be able to handle most workloads thrown at it.
An eight-core AMD Ryzen 7 4800H powers both versions of this laptop.
This processor is well equipped to handle moderate to demanding workflows like gaming, entertainment, graphic design, 3D modelling, video editing, and (naturally) software development.
Plus you can equip the KDE Slimbook III with up to 64 GBs of DDR4 RAM 3200 MHz (base model is 8GB 3200 MHz) and storage up to 2TB NVMe (base model is 250GB).
Other features include a USB Type-C port (which doesn’t do video out, apparently), BIOS switches to disable webcam, mic, and Wi-Fi (not physical, but welcome) and there’s an “infrared biometric camera” you can use to run
sudo commands at the terminal using your face!
Finally, the laser etched KDE Slimbook on the rear of the display is pure class. If you’re a KDE fan there’s no classier way to rep the project that to sport a a laptop etched with the iconic insignia.
All this power does not come at a crazy price either: the 14.1-inch KDE Slimbook III costs €899, while the 15.6-inch model starts at at €929.
You can learn more abut the laptop on Slimbook’s website.
