Oficial discs for Ubuntu 12.10 Desktop and Server editions have gone on pre-sale in the Canonical Store.

As Ubuntu 12.10 is the first release of Ubuntu to not fit on a standard CD the desktop edition is provided on DVD media.

Ubuntu DVDs still offer the same ‘live environment’ as Live CDs but can often be slower in use (depending on the read-speed of the DVD drive reading them).

Ubuntu discs are often handed out for free at events promoting Ubuntu. Some Ubuntu LoCo teams also provide discs for free to users in their locale who might otherwise be unable to download/upgrade to the latest release.

Price

single Ubuntu 12.10 DVD is priced at £4.71/$7.99 each.

Sound pricey? The bundle pack works out as much better value, offering 3 Desktop Edition DVDs and 2 Server Edition CDs for £5.90/$10.01

If you need bulk copies these are also available. Packs of 10, 20, 100, or 200 Desktop or Server discs cost £8.50, £17.02, £80.85, and £135.32 respectively.

For further information, or to buy, head over to the Canonical Store.
