The latest stable release of Firefox 7 has been pushed out to the masses.
Don’t expect to be able to see most of the changes on the surface though: Firefox 7’s main features are improved memory handling and faster Firefox Sync.
Firefox 7 also ‘hides’ the “http://” part of a URL by default, althought this remains on show in the case of secure sites using “https://”.
How to Install Firefox 7 in Ubuntu
If you’re using Ubuntu 11.04 or 11.10 you don’t need to do anything special to get the upgrade: Firefox will update automatically via Update Manager in the coming hours.
Users of Ubuntu 10.04 and 10.10 can upgrade to Firefox 7 by adding the Firefox Stable PPA.
- Add ‘ppa:mozillateam/firefox-stable‘ to your Software Sources (see here on how to do that)
- Run Update Manager
- Upgrade Firefox
