Banshee 1.9.1 upgrades Ubuntu extensions, adds subtitle support

Notice: This post is more than a year old. It may be outdated.

A new development release of soon-to-be Ubuntu’s default music player Banshee was released a few days back.

In preparation of the move to default 1.9.1 sees the Ubuntu One Music Store and Ubuntu SoundMenu extensions moved  from the Banshee Community Extensions package and  into the default set of Banshee extensions.

1.9.1 also sees the following new additions alongside bugfixes: –

  • Reworked podcast ‘edit’ dialog
  • Added support for embedded and external subtitles
  • Support for the LG Ally cell/mobile phone
  • Podcast browser returns
  • ‘Recently Played’ default smart playlist

As this is a development snapshot it is not available to install via the Stable PPA. It is, however, available in the Banshee Daily Builds PPA @ ppa:banshee-team/banshee-daily

Usual caveats when adding development PPA’s apply.
