Nvidia using Ubuntu 10.10 adopters suffering from performance regressions in which some applications are slow to ‘redraw’ and text rendering is laggy, may wish to try one of the two following solutions.

The first ‘fix’ is to switch font rendering from ‘Subpixel Smoothing (LCD)’ to another setting in the fonts setting.

Head to ‘Preferences -> Appearance > Fonts’ to adjust these.

The second fix is more extreme but appears to be solving the issue completely for users blighted by this. It involves installing the Nvidia 260.19.06 driver – which is beta. Find the corresponding download link for your hardware in the link below.
