Screenshot App Shutter adds ‘redo last capture’, makes bloggers’ lives everywhere easier

Notice: This post is more than a year old. It may be outdated.

Shutter will be gaining a new ‘redo last capture’ tool in its next major release.

The feature, already available in the ‘experimental’ branch allows a user to takes exactly the same screenshot again and again ” perfect for showing changes within a certain screen section or the same window, etc.

All four screenshots were taken in exactly the same position using the ‘redo’ tool

You can try Shutter Experimental from the following branch:-

  • bzr branch lp:~mario-kemper/shutter/experimental

If you don’t want to install bzr but still want to try it out you can download this Tarbell and run shutter by double-clicking on the ‘shutter’ file inside ‘/bin.’

Do bear in mind it will likely be buggy, hence why it’s an ‘Experimental’ branch. If you don’t have Shutter installed already you will need the following dependencies install for it to run: –

  • sudo apt-get install libgtk2-perl libgtk2-imageview-perl libglib-perl libgnome2-perl libgnome2-vfs-perl libgnome2-wnck-perl libgnome2-gconf-perl liblocale-gettext-perl libxml-simple-perl libwww-mechanize-perl libwww-perl libnet-dbus-perl imagemagick perlmagick libx11-protocol-perl librsvg2-common xdg-utils procps

The quickest way to install these is to

  • sudo apt-get install shutter

And then run Shutter from the folder and not the menu.
