BURG Boot loader installation, themeing & more gets even easier with BURG Manager app

The process of installing BURG – the easy way to get a graphical, good-looking bootloader - has been made easier thanks to a new 'BURG Manager' application which provides users with a graphical front-end for configuring and managing various aspects of their bootloader.

Features include:

  • Install Burg, Burg-themes and a Burg emulator
  • Set timeout
  • Change theme
  • Set the screen resolution
  • Browse & install new BURG themes
  • Remove Burg
  • Restore Grub2
  • Set the default operating system

Download

Easy one-click install .deb files can be found over on the projects home page @ this link.

Alternatively you can add the official repository for the application, thus ensuring you remain up-to-date with the latest fixes and features. To do this open a terminal and enter the following commands carefully and as root where needed.

  • echo “deb http://www.sourceslist.eu/repo/ubuntu lucid main non-free” | sudo tee -a /etc/apt/sources.list
  • wget http://www.sourceslist.eu/?download=public.key -O- | sudo apt-key add -
  • sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install burg-manager

Once installed you will find the BURG Manager in the Application > System menu

Finally€¦

To finish off here is a pretty swish video of the application in action from the developers themselves: -

I’ve got this error when I add the repository :E: Type ‘“deb’ is not known on line 49 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list

UPDATE: with the command “deb http://www.sourceslist.eu/repo/ubuntu lucid main non-free” | sudo tee -a /etc/apt/sources.list, the ” ” are added in the document, so I just had to delete them.

Quick fix:1)Open a terminal and type sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list2)Go to the line specified in the error message3)Remove all the quotes(if present) in that line4)Run the last command given above againThe reason is the first command given above is little buggy. No quotes are allowed in the sources.list file

are you sure it’s not because, like a lot of fancy text on omgubuntu, the quotes, which are usually just “and” are on this site “and” which are not recognised by the terminal, it expects “. Personally I think the site should have a different style for code that doesn’t replace “” with “” and doesn’t replace x with × etc so that code can be copied and pasted into the terminal without need for modification!

To the author: Thanks for this article, but please edit the bugs from the code so others don’t continue to make the mistake with the quotations. Most people are going to type in the buggy code without reading the comments, as I did. Again, thanks.

    BURG site is down. :(

    Mate,
As much as I love this site for its info, tweaks and how-to’s, its bloody irresponsible to leave some incorrect code up for people to inadvertently feed into their terminal. Thanks to Rajesh, its very easily fixable, but its been 2 months odd and you STILL haven’t removed the ” ” from the original post??
    Come on!
