vlc chromecast support in action on ubuntu

A new point update the recent VLC 3.0 release is available to download.

VLC 3.0.1 update has better VLC Chromecast support.

Fans of the versatile video player who want to cast video from their desktop to the tiny streaming dongle using VLC will find loading speed and connections are improved, and VP9 casting now works.

The player also boasts a more noticeable transition when switching between local content and chromecast playback, perfect for letting you know when you are (and aren’t) casting!

Other changes in VLC 3.0.1 include:

  • Core crash fixes
  • Improved MKV seek speed
  • Fix subtitle seek
  • Increase TS probing amount for 4K streams
  • Improve scaling on HiDPI displays

A full list of changes in VLC 3.0.1 can be found in the Git changelog.

VLC 3.0.1 is available to download for Windows, macOS and Linux (source code) from the Videolan website. Android users can install the update via the Google Play Store.

Official VLC Snap and Flatpak packages are also available through the Snapcraft store and Flathub respectively. If you already have one of these packages installed you will get the 3.0.1 update as and when it’s uploaded to the store.
