The location for Linux.conf.au 2012 has been announced as Ballarat, Victoria.

The conference will from 16 – 21 January next year and have a similar format to the LCAs we have become used to over the past ten years – a week long Open Source conference boasting a variety of keynote speakers, talks, tutorials and sessions that makes LCA what it is.

Ballarat is about one hour’s drive out of Melbourne in the Australian state of Victoria, and the venue will be the University of Ballarat.

The University is very strongly focused on ICT and has one of the largest ICT centres in all of Australia.

Unfortunately, you cannot fly directly into Ballarat, so future attendees will need to fly into Melbourne and then make the journey inland to attend LCA 2012.

Ballarat certainly sounds like a cool and unique location for a Linux.conf.au, and seeing as the “big cities” have been done many times over the past 10 years, it makes sense to introduce some variety in location!
