Oh dear, Microsoft.

Whether out of error or intention, Microsoft have been blocking access to the Free Software Foundation‘s donation form on corporate systems using the company’s Security Networking programme.

The ‘block’, which will only have affected a small number of people, was put in place after Microsoft’s Reputation Service judged it to be a ‘gambling site’.

Seriously.

Whilst hiccups do happen, the blocking of a fully registered nonprofit charity that has been around for almost 30 years does seem, in all fairness, to be ludicrous.

One boon to come from the mess-up is that the FSF are getting exposure – and ammunition for their cause, as this recent jab shows:

“Proprietary security software is an oxymoron — if the user is not fundamentally in control of the software, the user has no security.”

Quite ;)
