Rdio and Pandora support has been added to the desktop-based cloud music player Nuvola.

Updated translations, and fixes for multimedia-keys and webkit rending also feature in the 1.0.4 release.

Rdio

Rdio is an ad-free music subscription service currently restricted to playback in a handful of countries, including the USA, Canada, Germany, Spain, Portugal, and New Zealand. Official Rdio desktop clients for Mac, Windows, iOS and Android are available.

The service also sports a link to Linux in the form of Banshee’s former lead developer Aaron Bockover, now a member of the Rdio development team.

Updating/Installing Nuvola

The advantage to using one of the six available music services supported through Nuvola over their respective webapps is integration with the Ubuntu desktop through the Ubuntu Sound Menu, notification bubbles, media-key control, and Unity quicklists.

Nuvola player can be installed in Ubuntu 10.04 through to 12.04 by adding the following PPA to Software Sources.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:nuvola-player-builders/stable
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install nuvolaplayer
