The latest development release of Wine – the software application that lets various Windows applications run under Linux – has broken audio support for Windows apps in Ubuntu.

Wine 1.3.25, released last Friday, saw a ‘total rewrite of audio support’ and the removal of several audio drivers. The result is breakage of audio support for Wine apps through PulseAudio – Ubuntu’s default sound server.

Whatever you use wine for, but especially for gamers, it’s best to hold off on upgrading to the latest release until the issues have been sorted.

The issue does not affect non-Wine running applications.
