Calling all grammar nazis and typo hunters: put your fingers where your moans are, and go up against the editors of OMG! Ubuntu! in the time wasting typing game OMG! Words!.

The game was created by the talented folks at Sigmoid to demonstrate the 2D LÖVE game engine.

A cheesy if somewhat immature game, OMG! Words! makes for a solid (and slightly addictive) boredom buster – and it couldn’t be easy to play.

If you open the game with an internet connection, OMG! Words! will pull in a list of words from recent articles on this blog, and then those words will be the ones you have to type (if you don’t have an internet connection, it just uses magic to conjure some words).

Words ‘rain’ down at increasing rates of difficulty/speed. The goal is to type as many of the words on screen as correctly as possible, as fast as possible, before they reach the bottom because…

If you drop too words (making typos), it’ll be game over.

The longer you play the harder it gets too. Think the frantic, manic and sweat-inducing terror or level 10 on Tetris—but worse: you’ve an entire keyboard filled with letters to button-mash, and those words are only gonna fall faster and faster…

Benjamin will appear to encourage you (hurl insults) if you drop the pace or misspell a word. Occasionally, you’ll see his ugly Kiwi mug zip across the screen – any word he touches will be scrambled.

But don’t panic; look out for me (Joey), as any word my face touches will magically unscramble it.

Note: we, Ohso Media Guys, can not be held responsible or liability for any repetitive strain injuries which result from you playing with us (however, we reserve the right to enjoy it*).

You can install OMG! Words on Ubuntu 9.10, 10.04 LTS, 10.10 (or the upcoming 11.04), but you’ll need to add Sigmoid developer Bart’s personal package archive (PPA) to get the LOVE engine, then add fellow dev Tommy Brunn’s PPA which contains the game itself.

To do that, open your terminal and run:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:bartbes/love-stable && sudo add-apt-repository ppa:tommybrunn/omgwords
 sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install omgwords

Let everything download and install fully, then launch the game from the Unity launcher (or whatever app menu your desktop environment of choices uses).

You can take it from there!
