Ubuntu default video editor PiTiVi currently lacks video effects – but this won’t be the case for much longer.

PiTiVi developer Thiblahute has been working on implementing effects into PiTiVi as part of his Google Summer of Code (GSoC) project: “Permit Pitivi users to add effects to the videos they are editing”.

He’s been keeping user users fully abreast of his development on his blog where Thublahute notes that the work so far “..is still quite buggy, and not really ergonomic, but it is the beginning!”. His next step will be to focus in on the UI elements (for example there is currently no way to easily edit an effect once applied.) Before that will come some code clean-up and bug fixes.

Take a peek

Below is a quick peek at Thublahute’s PiTiVi progress so far. In the video I apply a range of effects to a random video I found in my Video folder and preview them. It’s simple stuff but shows off the promise PiTiVi effects can offer as well as the pretty solid work in their enablement.
