Does empathy still work for you for msn?

          • Anonymous

it has stopped working.  due to a change in the messenger servers lately .

But you can stiil get it to work. check the folowing link to have msn working again.

It didn’t work for kopete (I use Kubuntu)…

@Rob_van_Bobbert:disqus   ask a question on askubuntu, specifying you are using kopete. i’m sure there is a fix for that also…

seems to be fixed in papyon 0.5.6

    I get:

W: GPG error: http://ppa.launchpad.net oneiric Release: The following signatures couldn’t be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY 9D63EE0836DFE71C

How do i add the key?

    • http://omgubuntu.co.uk/ Joey-Elijah Sneddon

Either manually download it and add it (long winded) or just remove the PPA from Software Sources then add it via the Terminal (will automatically grab the key)

      sudo add-apt-repository ppa:emesene-team/emesene-stable

        yeap another bug ;/

guess we will never get away from the terminal lol

How do I get facebook chat to work? I get connection error. Yes I’ve installed python-xmpp

I think it isn’t possible to be online in MSN- and GoogleTalk -accounts at the same time in Emesene? If so, no Emesene for me. In Pidgin that is possible, so i’m gonna stick with it.

    • Anonymous

you are right. no multiple accounts at the same time.

why not ask for the feature?

Not going to happen, it’s against the design

    • http://2buntu.com Roland Taylor

Emesene is (and always has been) a single protocol at a time client. They added support for XMPP chat because most of the developers use Jabber instead of MSN.

    • Carlos Morales

Well,  you can have 2 instances of the program running, 1 for each service. It may be weird, but it works. I prefer Pidgin, though; emesene started working like crap since they changed to 2.X

Thanks, Carlos. It’s good to know.

Not multi-threaded, connection issues let hang the whole application
Not compliant with interface design conventions like the Gnome HIG, looks clumsy and disproportional
No support for multiple accounts logged in at the same time
Confusing plug-in system, app settings scattered around plug-ins
    No video/audio call
    Custom emoticons render oddly

Even though Empathy supports barely more MSN functionality than text and audio call, I prefer it way above this.

    Emesene = nopenopenope

Indeed. Well, Emesene used to be better a few years ago, but it’s not like it used to anymore nowadays. I find KMess the best, but it doesn’t work anymore in 11.10 and upstream is dead. Devs are not contactable anymore, no updates on Git either.

is there any screenshots without the green bird icon :D

    Good…..

  • André Steinn

Since emesene 2, there’s a bug, I don’t send/receive some messages, this happen in the middle of the conversation, the connection just “close”, I can’t sent the message to the user anymore and he can’t send me…
I mean, he can, but I don’t receive.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jeremy-Newton/512458865 Jeremy Newton

I believe that issue is only with the official Mac Messenger and Emesene specifically

  • Christopher Khoury

not working with msn !!! it has been signing in for 15 minutes :/

  • Fernando J. Lardo

Well, for me Pidgin + msn-pecan it’s the best option. I mean, empathy uses telepathy-butterfly/haze which is the wrapper for libpurple so…; Anyways, none of all the free/libre clones for msn seems to have fully working audio/video calls, if anyone knows would be great to post it here.

    • Anonymous

Just tested msn-pecan in 11.10 on pidgin 2.10.0 and when I attempt to enable my new WLM account, it just gets disabled after a second. Any ideas?

What? No webcam support? Is there any messenger available with full support for webcam and MSN chat?

    • Anonymous

aMSN probably. Ugly as hell but it works (or at least did on the odd occasions I used it). Haven’t tested in a while

      • http://twitter.com/Daan1101 Daan De Weerdt

Ugly indeed :) but never had any problems with it when I used it before I switched to Pidgin.
I remember it having webcam support but no multi-account support though…

And holy crap the project is still active :D

      • Anonymous

Tested aMSN with MSN chat, no webcam support too. I think it happened due to Microsoft changes in MSN messages protocol.
