The first part of the headline above is stolen from Alex Launi’s brilliant surmise on the latest Banshee merge that brings with it improved device detection and (get stoked) iPhone and iPod Touch hardware support out of the box!
The move also finally sees Banshee’s dependency on HAL dropped, with Alex pointing out why this is important for distributions: –
“You can finally actually drop HAL from your iso and ship the best media player Gnome has to offer (sorry Rhythmbox- we just rule really hard).”
All of this awesomeness will be ready and waiting for users come September the 1st and the release of Banshee 1.7.5. In the mean time, if you’re dying to test all of this out, Alex has succinct build instructions o’er on his blog.
