Popular icon set ‘Faenza’ has been updated to support Ubuntu 12.10.
New icons for Ubuntu One Music and Ubuntu Online Accounts have been added, and new designs debut for Twitter, Spotify and Contacts.
Faenza’s creator, Matthieu James, has been hired by Canonical to work on a new icon set for Ubuntu 13.04.
The icon set can be downloaded and install manually via the link below:
Faience GTK
Alongside the update to Faenza, Matthieu James’ has also published the first version of a new GTK theme – ‘Faience’.
This light, steel-y theme works well under Unity, with its custom window control buttons showing up in the top panel.
Install Faenza and Faience in Ubuntu
Alongside the separate package downloads linked to above, a dedicated PPA containing both the theme and the icon set is available.
To add it, open a new Terminal and enter the following commands carefully, inputting your user password where prompted:
- sudo add-apt-repository ppa:tiheum/equinox
- sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install faenza-icon-theme faience-*
After installing the theme you will need to use a third-party tool like MyUnity (12.04) or, for Ubuntu 12.10 users, GNOME Tweak Tool, to set the icons and theme as default.
