The default wallpaper of Ubuntu 16.10 has been revealed.

As you’re no doubt aware, a new desktop background accompanies each new stable release of Ubuntu.

The Yakkety Yak, due in October, doesn’t buck this trend.

The new wallpaper continues to iterate rather than renovate the preceding release’s design. The new Ubuntu 16.10 wallpaper is a lighter, brighter riff on Ubuntu’s 16.04 backdrop.

Angular, geometric accents are still present, but more prominent in this redesign. Orange gradients dominate the drape, making it one of the brightest default wallpapers of recent years.

For comparison here’s the default Ubuntu 16.04 wallpaper, plus the 15.10 and 15.04 designs. Note the increase of lighter, brighter colours:

Tablet and phone sized versions, plus the now-traditional greyscale version of the new wallpaper are also available.

Do you like the new design? Or will changing it to something else be one of the first things you do after installing Ubuntu 16.10?
