slim book eclipse linux laptop with i7 CPU

Is it too late to add stuff to my Christmas list?

If not I’d love to find the latest Linux laptop from Spanish PC company Slimbook neatly wrapped and waiting for me under my not-so-neatly decorated Christmas tree!

The 15.6-inch workstation is being pitched at those working with HD multimedia creation, on-the-go Linux gaming, or serious number crunching.

The Eclipse is kitted out with a choice of Intel i7 Core processor and …Nope, that’s it; the Eclipse is, Slimbook say, a machine intended for power users. Accordingly, there aren’t any technical compromises on the processor choice. You either need the power or you don’t.

Specs at a glance:

  • Intel i7-7700HQ processor
  • Up to 32GB RAM (8GB in base model)
  • NVIDIA GTX 1060 (6GB GDDR5)
  • Gigalan ethernet and AC WiFi

If there’s a downer to be found it’s the 15.6-inch screen. The resolution tops out at FHD 1920×1080. No, this isn’t terrible, but it’s perhaps a little lacking on a laptop that’s otherwise something of a box ticker.

Air cooling and radiators behind the rear grilles help ensure the Eclipse is able to adequately manage temperature during heavy workloads. These also sport some subtle LED lights that, Slimbook say, are synchronised with the backlit keyboard.

The hunk’o’plastic also boasts room for up to three hard drives, 1x SATA3 and 2x M.2 SSD, packs in a full-size backlit keyboard with numerical keypad, a pair of 2.0 watt speakers, a HD webcam, and dual microphones.

Ports wise there are 4 USB, full-size HDMI out, SD card slot, and headphone jack (how courageous).

Slimbook Eclispe Price? Not Terrible

How much does the Slimbook Eclipse cost?

Not as much as you might think!

The base unit (which comes with 8GB RAM) starts at €899. RAM upgrades, additional storage and a slightly better wireless card push the price higher, of course.

You can learn more about the the Slimbook Eclipse over on Slimbook website, where you’ll also find the all-important buy button:

If you’re after something that marries power with a more portable form factor do check out the company’s other 15-inch laptop, the Slimbook Excalibur, or its 13-inch Slimbook Pro.

Thanks Slimbook
