ARC Gtk Theme

Here’s a little dose of news for fans of GTK themes who also like convenience.

If you love the Arc GTK theme, but don’t love needing to hunt down an install package every time you perform a fresh install of Ubuntu, you’re going to Ubuntu 16.10, due for release October 2016.

Why? Because the Arc GTK theme is now available to install on Ubuntu 16.10 from the Universe repository.

This makes it dead simple to install it on your desktop: just open the Ubuntu Software app, find the Arc theme, and hit install.

No PPAs. No OpenSUSE repos. No manual tar.gz extraction — just a slick, stylish modern theme (now complete with GTK 3.20 support) ready to roll when you are.

All three versions of Arc are included, so if you don’t like the light look you can rock the Arc dark version or mix it up with Arc darker.

If you’re already running Ubuntu 16.10 Daily you can install Arc right this theme-tweakin’ second by running the following command in a new Terminal window:

sudo apt install arc-theme

You’ll still need to install and use an app like Unity Tweak Tool to set the theme (it won’t be listed in System Settings > Appearance).

Xenial Xerus user? You needn’t feel left out. See our article on how to install the latest Arc theme on Ubuntu 16.04.
