jamendo scope

Looking for some new Creative Commons music? Before you fire up your browser to search the Jamendo website you might want to try out the following new Unity Scope.

Made by prolific Scope maker David Callé, this new media scope offers up a browser-free way to search through and preview Jamendo’s library of some 410,000+ community contributed  tracks. You can search by title, name, artists or keyword; filter down through the sources sidebar or use the modifier of ‘jamendo:keyword‘.

Jamendo is just the latest in a long line of music services to surface results through Unity. Scopes for searching and previewing tracks from online sources like Grooveshark, Soundcloud and Ubuntu One Music Store are available.

Callé says that the Jamendo Scope should be added to the Smart Scopes Server in due course. This will make it available by default to anyone with online sources enabled on Ubuntu 13.10, 14.04 and, as it matures, Ubuntu Touch.

But in the meantime you’ll need to add the Scopes Packagers PPA first, then install the scope manually. To save some time you can do this through the Terminal using the following commands:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:scopes-packagers

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install unity-scope-jamendo
