The new “Ubuntu Software Store” has been renamed to “Ubuntu Software Center” – seemingly caving in to users dissatisfaction over the choice of name.
Mattheweast posted on the Ubuntu Froums: –
I had an email discussion with Mark Shuttleworth about this and he has decided to change the name to Software Center.
I believe that this forum thread and the votes cast was quite a significant factor in that decision so thank you to those who have commented and voted.
So from today on it is called ‘Ubuntu Software Centre’! A name much more in keeping with the free software ideology than the commercial connotations of it’s predecessor.
For UK users it will be, of course, be spelt ‘Ubuntu Software Centre’
