High Tide, the GTK4/libadwaita TIDAL client for Linux, is now available on Flathub.

The app has been in development for a while but installing (and updating) the app has thus far required going to the project’s GitHub page, finding the latest Flatpak file produced from the build system, and manually installing the app.

No more.

High Tide is now available on Flathub as a ‘verified’ app (important for Linux Mint users, as Linux Mint hides unverified Flathub listings by default).

In adding itself to the shelves of the most widely-used Linux App Store, High Tide will be more readily accessible and easily found by Linux users who subscribe to the TIDAL music streaming service and want to make the most of their subscription.

I won’t recap High Tide‘s feature set in this post since a) I’ve written about the app a few times before and b) most of its features are obvious: search/browse tracks, albums, artists or playlists, set audio quality, and then play them back!

However, High Tide has added new features in its debut Flathub release, namely:

  • Support for Discord Rich Presence
  • Animated album covers (where available)

There are also some more general tweaks on offer:

  • Album duration now listed in album pages
  • Preferences window adjustments
  • Unavailable tracks are shown as insensitive
  • Higher-quality album art
  • MPRIS tweak for progress backgrounds in Turntable

I’d encourage Linux users who subscribe to TIDAL (directly, or indirectly as I do – I am on a family plan) to take High Tide for a spin. It offers a peerless TIDAL experience with integrations one would expect (MPRIS integration, background play, responsive design, etc).

Its USP is offering a native user interface with local desktop integration (MPRIS, notifications, etc). If you are content with the official TIDAL web app in a browser tab (and don’t find it lacking, and always have your browser open) there is no compelling reason to switch.

If you’re interested, go grab the latest release from Flathub.

If you have an older, non-Flathub build installed you may want to remove as, with this release, High Tide switches its app ID (so if you install the Flathub build you’ll have two versions installed).
