The Purism Librem 5

Purism has unveiled the default ringtones which will be used on the Librem 5 phone.

The sounds come by way of a community-based contest (which I have to admit I wasn’t aware of before now) held alongside the Linux phone’s crowdfunding campaign.

Five winning tones were selected from what Purism say was an “overwhelming” submissions pool, one each in the following categories:

  • Phone call
  • Video call
  • Power on chime
  • Text message
  • New email

“Congratulations to all the winners, and many thanks to all who participated! The #1-ranked sounds above will be featured as the default sounds used by the Librem 5 phone. You will of course be able to choose to use your own sounds if you prefer—it is, after all, your phone,” they write in their announcement.

Like the Ubuntu Phone, which featured a custom ringtone by MassEffect composer Sam Hulick, the tones are liberally licensed. If you like the sound of ant you hear you can go ahead and download them for use on your Android, iOS, or other device.

The Winning Purism 5 Ringtones

You can hear the winning sounds (and many of the runners up) on the Purism blog or, if you’re feeling lazy, you can sample the winners in the following playlist we threw up on Soundcloud:
