After several years in development the Blender Foundation have today announced the first official stable release in the 2.5.x series of their 3D graphics software ‘Blender’.

Blender 2.57 sports, amongst other things, a re-designed GUI, support for add-ons, ‘streamlined’ access to paint brushes, improved animation and physics systems – including a revamped non-linear animation editor, along with bug fixes, stability improvements and much, much more.

Head over to the release log for a more thorough breakdown of what’s new.

Despite the release the developers won’t be taking a well-earned breather just yet, promising to ‘..keep working on finishing a couple of left-over 2.5 targets’ over the next 2 months.
