An official KDE Connect mobile client is now available on the Apple App Store.

The addition of this official iOS app means folks with an iPhone and/or iPad can benefit from a deeper set of integration between their mobile devices and their Linux desktop.

Features of KDE Connect for iPhone include:

  • Shared clipboard
  • Share files and URLs to your computer from any app
  • Virtual touchpad
  • Presentation remote control
  • Run commands on your computer from your phone

The KDE Connect iOS app doesn’t offer 1:1 feature parity with the Android client. This is (as you can probably guess) more to do with limitations inherent in Apple’s mobile OS than it is ability on the part of KDE Connect’s iOS developers.

That said, there’s nothing to stop others – maybe you? – from getting involved to patch in support for whatever integrations are possible. And for those curious, the KDE Connect iOS app is licensed a bit differently to the Android client in order to comply with App Store rules.

Whether you’re a fan of KDE Connect directly (i.e. on KDE) or make use of it through integrations on other platforms, like GNOME Shell using the GSConnect GNOME extension, using the official KDE Connect app is a must if you want to get the most from the tool.

Head over to KDE Connect on the App Store to download the app on to supported devices.
