The first point release update to GNOME 3.26 is now available to download.
The first of many such releases, GNOME 3.26.1 brings with it bug fixes, performance tuning, and a few other minor tweaks.
As part of the GNOME 3.26.1 release is a new version of Mutter, the GNOME window manager and compositor.
Mutter 3.26.1 debuts the smarter window snap resizing feature we talked about earlier in the year (and on show in the gif somewhere on this page).
It also adds support for sandboxed Snap packages, and fixes issues with monitor layouts not being remembered between sessions.
Elsewhere, GNOME Shell 3.26.1 adds support for headless mode, improves keyboard navigation of window previews, and makes the window group switcher ‘more consistent’ (whatever that means).
Other updates that form part of the overall release include new versions of core apps, including a tweak to GNOME Photos to hide orientation controls when they’re not needed, and translation updates for GNOME Online Accounts.
Upgrade to GNOME 3.26.1 on Ubuntu
If you’re running Ubuntu 17.10 (already) you will be able to upgrade to the point release through the usual software channels in the next few days (most packages are already in proposed).
